To Book a Flight

There are two ways to book a flight using your Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars:

  • Go to airnewzealand.co.nz and click on the "My Account" box. You'll need your PAC (Personal Access Code) to register online with Air New Zealand - your PAC can be found in the letter you received when you joined Air New Zealand.

Or

  • Call Air New Zealand Airpoints Service Centre on 0800 AIRPOINTS (0800 247 764) 8am-8pm, 7 days a week.

For phone bookings an applicable service fee applies. Please allow three working days to process your request.

Stretch your Airpoints Dollars with Airpoints Advance

Airpoints Advance allows you, for as long as you're the original nominated earner1 for a GlobalPlus card(excluding GlobalPlus Business), to get an Advance of up to 200 Airpoints Dollars (for a Platinum cardholder), 100 Airpoints Dollars (for a Gold cardholder), or 50 Airpoints Dollars (for a Standard cardholder). So if you've almost got enough Airpoints Dollars for a reward, there's no need to swim the last few miles - just dip into your Airpoints Advance to pay for the rest of your flight.

If you have a GlobalPlus Platinum account that has more than one cardholder, this benefit is only available to the cardholder who is the first person to link their Airpoints membership account to the GlobalPlus Platinum account while they remain the linked cardholder. If you take out Airpoints Dollars on your Airpoints Advance, then any Airpoints Dollars you subsequently earn will go first to repaying your Airpoints Advance, and then to your Airpoints Dollars balance.

If you hold more than one credit card that entitles you to Airpoints Advance, you are only entitled to an Airpoints Advance for the card which has the higher Airpoints Advance limit.

You'll pay no fees to use it, and no interest on the advanced Airpoints Dollars.

To Upgrade to a Better Seat

You can use your Airpoints Dollars™ to upgrade on Air New Zealand international-ticketed and operated flights. You can choose from standby or confirmed upgrades.

To request an upgrade you'll need a confirmed booking with an Air New Zealand flight number and your ticket must have been issued.

  • Then call 0800 AIRPOINTS (247 764). Please note that a service fee will apply for requests made via the Airpoints service centre.
  • To avoid service fees, request your upgrade online at airnewzealand.co.nz
  • Upgrade requests can't be made at the airport.

You can request a standby or confirmed upgrade up to 355 days before your flight and as little as 4 hours before hand. If a standby upgrade isn't available, Air New Zealand will credit your Airpoints Dollars back to your account. Confirmed upgrades are only available in conjunction with some fares. For full details visit airnewzealand.co.nz

To Gift a Flight Reward

You can gift a flight reward (excluding companion tickets) to anyone living at the same residential address as you.

If they're an Airpoints member, they can gift a flight to you too! The trick is to set up your own Member's Gifting Register at airnewzealand.co.nz or call 0800 AIRPOINTS (247 764).

If you're a Gold Elite Airpoints member, you can gift rewards (excluding companion tickets) to four people outside your household each year, and as a Gold Airpoints Member you can gift rewards (excluding companion tickets) to two people outside your household each year. See airnewzealand.co.nz for more details.

If you're a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder you can use your Airpoints Dollars to gift rewards (excluding companion tickets) to two people outside your household each year2. You can also gift as many other rewards (excluding companion tickets) as you want to people living at the same address as you.

If you have a GlobalPlus Platinum account that has more than one cardholder, the ability to gift to people outside your household is only available to the cardholder who is the first person to link their Airpoints membership account to the GlobalPlus Platinum account while they remain the linked cardholder.

And if you're special enough to be both a Gold or Gold Elite Airpoints member and a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder, your non-household gifting limit is based on your Airpoints member status, not your GlobalPlus card.

Long-life Airpoints Dollars

Every Airpoints Dollar you earn is valid for at least four years. Any Airpoints Dollars you have for more than four years will expire on the anniversary of your Airpoints membership.

When you claim a reward using your Airpoints Dollars, your oldest Airpoints Dollars get used first. So you have plenty of time to use your Airpoints Dollars.

To help you keep track, your quarterly Airpoints statement shows your Airpoints Dollars total and how long you've had your Airpoints Dollars for. Your monthly GlobalPlus statement will show you how many Airpoints Dollars you have earned with your credit card in that period.

If you're a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder though, the news is even better. With GlobalPlus Platinum, your Airpoints Dollars will never expire as long as you are the nominated earner. So once you've earned your points, you've got a lifetime to enjoy the rewards. What's more, any unexpired Airpoints Dollars you earned before you became a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder also get included.

If you have a GlobalPlus Platinum account that has more than one cardholder, this benefit is only available to the cardholder who is the first person to link their Airpoints membership account to the GlobalPlus Platinum account while they remain the linked cardholder.

And what happens to your Airpoints Dollars if you are no longer a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder or the linked cardholder? They simply revert to normal mode, expiring in accordance with the usual Airpoints membership rules.

  1. Air New Zealand Airpoints Programme Terms and Conditions apply. Only available to the New Zealand registered Airpoints Programme member. The Cardholder cannot use Airpoints Advance (or any unused portion of it), and has 12 months to repay the Advance, once s/he ceases to be a GlobalPlus Platinum cardholder and/or the original nominated earner or Air New Zealand withdraws Airpoints Advance. Failure to repay the Advance will result in Air New Zealand closing the cardholder's Airpoints membership account and Air New Zealand reserves the right to recover the monetary value of any outstanding Advance.
  2. Air New Zealand Airpoints Programme Terms and Conditions apply. Ability to gift to persons outside the household is only available to New Zealand registered Airpoints Programme members.  Each GlobalPlus Platinum credit card holder may nominate up to 2 people as giftees for each 12 month period commencing on the date their GlobalPlus credit card account is opened and each anniversary of that date.   Not cumulative with gifting rights as a Gold or Gold Elite Airpoints member.
